2012 Race Report

Smiling faces and fast runners ruled the day at the sixth running of the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon.  Sergio Reyes and Andrea Mclarty both cruised to dominant victories under perfect running (and wine tasting) conditions.  Over 2,600 runners from all over the world completed the scenic course that takes runners from Santa Ynez to Solvang via Los Olivos and Ballard Canyon.  Marine layer fog kept runners cool for most of the race until the sun broke through just in time for the post-race Wine & Music Festival in Solvang Park.  Reyes, of Palmdale, CA finished with a time of 1:06:32, nearly two minutes off his course record set in 2010, besting 2nd place Jonathan Pierce by two minutes. Mclarty, from Santa Barbara, ran a 1:21:04, beating 2nd place finisher Emilie Johnson by 6 minutes.  Johnson, a basketball player at UCSB, was running her first half marathon.

2013 Race date is May 11th.  Regisration will open in August.  Actual registration date opening will be announced here on the website and in the Grapevine e-news.

You can now purchase your own Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon branded wine.  The winemaker at Carivintas Winery in Solvang has created a special blend of Red and White wines especially for this event. Destination Red is a one-of-a-kind blend of 72% Sangiovese, 18% Merlot and 10% Petite Syrah.  Destination White blends the Sauvignon Blanc and White Tempranillo varietals.
